The Latest Blue Makeup Craze Means Denim Is No Longer Just For Jeans

24 Aug

Denim hues aren’t just for jeans come September. Makeup is taking a bold inspiration from our fave jeans for a trend that would make the Smurfs jealous. Sure, blue can get us down: Ke$ha’s lips at her ‘Shock the World’ performance looked too popsicle-y and the jury’s still out on Juliette Lewis, but bright, bold aquas and marines are ready to pop this fall.

And just like your favorite pair of jeans, blues can either be a subtle highlight or a dramatic statement. The midnight hue of Estée Lauder Blue Dahlia polish is totally on trend for autumn, intense but not over-the-top. For eyes, work in the season’s metallic craze with a bold swipe of Too Faced’s liquid liner in Restraining order (stick to straight lines for impact). Or soften eyes with a hint of cornflower: M·A·C‘s Winkle satin shade looks great on all skin tones. Finally, if you think Ke$ha has the right idea but just the wrong application, try Tokidoki’s Prisma Lip Gloss in Ninja Dog, which has a light shine and a subtle blue (good for brightening teeth), skipping the just-ate-an-Icy-Pop look. Years of wearing jeans have taught us that really, blue goes with everything!
