A Moving Moma Exhibit

27 Jan

Lately I’ve been on the prowl for a fresh NYC cultural experience. Turns out I’m in luck because the Moma has a great exhibition series where the worlds of movement, theatre, and visual art collide. The series features pieces from a roster of artists including Trisha Brown, Allora and Calzadilla, and Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. Instead of staring at a two-dimensional piece of art hung on a wall, audience members view the work as artists perform it in real time. If you dare to get out there and face the snow this weekend, check out the current performance featuring NYC-based Ralph Lemon. He uses dance and visual art to present a 40-minute duet exploring the raw energy that exists between two bodies moving in space. His performances are on January 29th and 30th at 3PM and are included with the price of museum admission. See you there! For more information about the exhibit click here.

Celebrating Fresh Film Talent

25 Jan

For the past four years 7 For All Mankind has honored emerging film talent with our “7 Fresh Faces” award presented during the prestigious Sundance Film Festival. This year we teamed up with The Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP) to select seven actors who we thought worthy of the fresh face title.  The 2011 honorees are Juno Temple (Kaboom, Little Birds), Kyle Gallner (Red State, Little Birds), Amy Seimetz (The Off Hours), Olivia Crocicchia (Terri), Thomas Dekker (Kaboom), Felicity Jones (Like Crazy), and Adepero Oduye (Pariah).  Aside from supporting young talent, 7 Fresh Faces gives us an excuse to party; so we threw a bash at the TR Suites in Park City, Utah.  This year’s event took place last Friday January 21st and was hosted by Indie film actress Sarah Paulson (Martha Marcy May Marlene). Drinks were drunk, dances were danced, and pictures were snapped.  So take a moment to peep a few of the party pics. You can click here for more information on the fresh faces honored at the event.

Visit Us On Retail Therapy

20 Jan

As if you needed another reason to log on Facebook, 7 For All Mankind and PopSugar have teamed up to create the first denim based in-game store for the popular social online game Retail Therapy.  Using the same design aesthetic and architectural elements of our physical retail stores, the 7 For All Mankind in-game store gives players the opportunity to fill the racks of their virtual fashion boutique with merchandise from our spring 2011 collection.  Here’s how it works: players begin with an empty boutique and earn virtual money by selling product from participating retailers.  The more product a player sells the more opportunities they get to make improvements to their boutique and turn it into the boutique of their wildest (virtual) dreams.  The products sold in the game are replicas of real product that designers carry in their actual stores.  It’s kind of like playing virtual paper dolls, complete with cartoon avatars that players can dress up and style.  Because we are the first denim brand to have our own in-game store – and because the game is sooo addictive, we’re pretty stoked about our venture into the virtual fashion world.  Click here to play now!

7 Obsession: The Gingerly Shoe

18 Jan

Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you have to trade function for fashion when it comes to footwear!  Let me introduce the perfect marriage of function and fashion, the 7 For All Mankind Gingerly boot.  The Gingerly boot references the military trend that is all the rage right now, but its classic details will ensure you reach for it season after season.  This shoe features an inside zipper for easy slip on, lace-up front, and a soft suede fabrication.  Now I wouldn’t recommend tromping around in the pouring rain in these (cue in the galoshes), but their sturdy rubber sole makes them a great everyday winter footwear choice.  As I mentioned last week, skinny jeans and boots go hand in hand, so slip on those Gweneveres ladies and tuck ‘em into your Gingerly’s for the ultimate cozy getup.  Buy them here on our website.

Reese Witherspoon In Roxannes

13 Jan

Whether Reese is in sailor stripes and skinnies or boyfriend jeans and ballet flats, she always looks effortlessly chic in her denim ensembles.  This past holiday season she was seen sporting a pair of our Roxanne skinny jeans while shopping at Barney’s New York in Beverly Hills.  Want to get Reese’s California cool style?  The key to this look starts with a great fitting pair of skinnies; the slim silhouette shows off footwear and balances the skillfully layered basics on top.  Complete the outfit by wrapping around a gauzy scarf and accessorizing with your favorite slouchy leather hobo bag and you’re good to go.  So next time you’re perusing the racks at Barney’s (stocking up on new 7FAM’s, maybe?), take a few fashion cues from our fav denim diva Reese Witherspoon.  And most importantly don’t forget to flash those pearly whites for the paparazzi!  Shop our Roxanne fit here.

What to Wear: Denim Styling Tips For Winter

11 Jan

Need a wardrobe refresher for the cooler winter months?  Here’s a list of my top tips for wearing denim when the weather turns chilly.

1)      Skinny Jeans – Boots are the preferred footwear when it’s cold out.  So what jean goes hand in hand with them?  Skinny jeans of course!  Show off your fab footwear (and the eliminate elephant knee bunched look) by pulling on a pair of skinny jeans.  I promise that tucking your jeans into any boot will now happen with the greatest of ease.  For women, I suggest a Gwenevere or Roxanne fit which you can buy here.

2)      Darker Washes – Leave the sun-bleached denim in your closet and grab a pair of jeans with a deeper, darker, and richer wash.  There are several washes that have grey tints, inky indigo washes, or black threads woven into the fabric to add great depth and variation to blue washes.  Our Rinse wash for women and Vintage Loring wash for men are particularly great winter washes.

 3)      Updated Slimmer Fits – Colder weather calls for heavy sweaters and bulky jackets.  Puffy jackets may keep you warm, but avoid the marshmallow look by balancing thick layers on top with slimmer silhouettes on bottom.  Try our new Skinny Bootcut for women, and guys the Nate fit is best for you.  Both styles fit slimmer through the hip and thighs and open up just below the knee.

4)      Heavier Fabric – Last but not least, try selecting denim that has a heavier weight (typically considered in the 11-13 oz. range).  The weight of a fabric is determined by how much one yard of fabric weighs.  So a yard of 11 oz. denim weighs 11 oz.  Now who ever said you couldn’t learn anything from reading blogs?  Two great washes done in heavier weight are our Blakkstar wash for men (weighing in at 13 oz.) and our Winter Grey wash for women (weighing in at 11.5 oz).
