McQueen Still King

29 Apr

We were stoked to find out that Kate Middleton choose to wear a dress designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen for her royal nuptials.  The dress embodied the classic elegance of English royalty while also staying relevant to 21st century fashion.  It just goes to show that McQueen is still King in the fashion world, and what would be more appropriate than an exhibit opening next Wednesday May 4th at The Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art honoring the work of the late fashion designer.  Running until July 31, “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” showcases about one hundred of the designer’s extraordinary pieces, from gowns to jackets and trousers to skirts – designs that constantly challenged modern perceptions of beauty, sexuality, religion, and art.  For more information about the exhibit visit the Met’s official website.

And for McQueen fans who don’t live in New York, there’s a book entitled “Savage Beauty” that takes the same retrospective look into his design career.  Buy the book on Amazon here.

Denim Goes Green

22 Apr

Being green IS easy! We like to pride ourselves on innovative fits and washes – and eco-friendly fabrics are no exception. Take for example our 100% organic cotton jeans in white for men this spring season. This white wash is presented on a substantial 11.8 oz. non-stretch, organic white denim with a pronounced vertical slub. The fabric starts off in its natural color of ecru and then bleached white. Not only is it on trend with the white denim craze this spring, but it also reduces your carbon footprint. The organic cotton white jeans come in four signature fits. Click here to check them all out.

Ladies, what do you do with your old jeans?  We reuse them!  For fall, we knitted recycled indigo denim into lightweight jersey and designed the totally cute Cait top. Effortlessly chic, locally produced, and eco friendly.  Available in stores and on-line late summer.  Here’s to a greener earth!

Sienna Miller Wears Our Silky Pleated Crop Pant

20 Apr

Sienna Miller was spotted looking chic and fabulous in our Silky Pleated Crop pant while leaving the Comedy Theater in London a few weeks ago.  Staying in line with our non-denim evolution, these pants are a clean and fresh silhouette leveraged across a fabrication that goes beyond indigo.  Made from a 6.9 oz. soft and silky fabric this pant has beautiful drape, while the twill construction echoes our denim fabrications.  Additional design features include ankle zippers, an elastic hem, and seams down the back of the legs.  These pants look great when paired with a chambray top (á la our spring ad campaign) or with a simple tank like Sienna does here.  What’s even more exciting is that they’re now available on our website!  Purchase your own pair here.

Tribeca Film Festival Opens Next Week

15 Apr

The Tribeca Film Festival takes off next Thursday April 21st with nearly 100 films ranging from documentaries to dramas.  While the festival offers everything a movie buff could ever dream of, I’ve compiled a few noteworthy tidbits.

First, for those of you who don’t live in NYC, the festival has select films and shorts that can be viewed online via live stream.  Virtual audiences even have the opportunity to vote on the best online feature to receive cash prizes at the TFF Awards show.  Now you can be a part of the excitement of the festival from the comfort of your own home!

Also, audiences can enjoy a night of cinema under the stars at the World Financial Center Plaza where several films will be shown for the Tribeca Drive-In events.  Films start at dusk and include interactive pre-show activities.  The best part?  It’s free.

And finally, Malin Akerman who hosted the event for our “7 Fresh Faces in Film” Award at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, stars in the film The Bang Bang Club alongside Ryan Phillippe and Taylor Kitsch.  Based on a true story, the film follows the lives of four photographers who tell the story of post-Apartheid South Africa through their art.  Can’t wait to check it out!

Editors Preview Our Fall 2011 Collection

13 Apr

Last Thursday, we invited members of the press to the Soho Grand Hotel in NYC for an exclusive cocktail party to present our fall 2011 line.  We got to catch up with our editors while they sipped on champagne and browsed racks of the latest pieces from our men’s, women’s, accessories, and kids’ lines.

The fall women’s collection focuses on the free-spirited sense of adventure that defined pilots Amelia Earhart and Maggie Gee, creating a modern play of masculine and feminine that is truly “Aviator Chic.”  Our men’s collection focuses on traditional fabrics that have been redesigned in a contemporary context to reinvent wardrobe staples that are both rugged and refined.  Key pieces for women this fall include the aviator pant, bootcut and beyond (bootcuts in an array of fabrics and washes), tailored blazers, and cropped pants.  Vintage washes, chinos, and luxe corduroy make up the essential items for men.

Attendees were loving the collection – tweeting and snapping pics of their favorite pieces while at the preview.  Top pieces included The Skinny in Worn Nakita, Jiselle Flare (a new fit!), corduroy blazers for women, camouflage print utility jacket for men, and distressed men’s jeans.

I’ve posted a few photos to give you a peek at what the editors saw.  What do you think of the fall collection?
