Summer Fridays

30 May

Now that Memorial Day has come and gone, the season is finally here.  Yes, it’s officially summertime!  Warm nights, outdoor BBQs, quality pool time… While the list of our favorite summertime moments could go on forever, we’re moving the focus to one of the best inventions ever: Summer Fridays!

Even if you’re not out of the office by 3PM at the end of the week, Friday is the best day to kick back and get ready for your well deserved weekend! If you’re in New York, the 5PM possibilities are endless. Craving friends, denim cutoffs and a margarita? Head to Crema in Chelsea or Diablo Royale in the West Village to fill your soul with the most killer guacamole known to man!

Out on the best (West) coast? Nothing cures your workweek stress like the rooftop view from the Beverly Wilshire. It’s truly amazing what a sunset and slipping into super skinnies can do for your outlook on life.

In sunny Miami? Get out of the air conditioning, throw on a pair of white, super-flare denim, and head to Mary Brickell Village. Nobody makes a mojito like the bartenders at Dolores Lolita.

Wherever you are on Friday afternoon, be sure to soak in the summertime air and start your weekend off right!

MOCA & 7 For All Mankind Present… Rebel by James Franco!

15 May

If you haven’t already noticed, we’re all about James Franco this season. Obviously, you know just as well as we do that this guy can do it all.  Actor, producer, director, model, and singer?  Count it… quintuple threat. We’re especially excited right now, because our favorite it-boy’s exhibit officially launches today at the MOCA in Los Angeles.  To kick-off the excitement around the exhibit, Franco’s biggest supporters attended a midnight screening of his film, “The Life and Death of Natalie Wood”.   So much more than a hotel, and eponymous with Hollywood glamour, the event was hosted at the Chateau Marmont and brought out big-name celebs like Lily Donaldson, Zach Braff, Jared Leto, Lou Doillon, Sky Ferreira, as well as our blogger besties (what up Cheyenne Meets Chanel, Late Afternoon, That’s Chic, and Song of Style)!

To give you guys a little background on this amazing exhibit, we’ll leave it to our good friends over at MOCA to explain…

Rebel is an interrogative ode to Nicholas Ray’s masterpiece Rebel Without A Cause, reimagined and interpreted by Franco.  The exhibition reinterprets the film’s legends, the people involved, its place in Hollywood, film as a medium, and behind-the-scenes footage, in a new, fresh and, unconventional presentation of film, video installation, photography, painting, drawing, and sculpture, housed in and framed by iconic, Hollywood structures.

In Rebel, the contributions of each artist are combined to capture the spirit of the original film through references to the auto and motorcycle culture of the 1950s, which James Dean was a part of; teenage  angst and issues of identity back then, related to identity now; patrilineal exchange, and the relationships of father and son, and mentor and student; male and female sexuality; fiction and fact; and Hollywood and the art world.  The Chateau Marmont is one of the central points in Rebel, and perhaps the single most significant reference and home to Hollywood behind the scenes life, acting as a linking structure to the exhibition, and to several of the works presented.”

If you’re in L.A. this week, don’t forget to stop by the exhibit and show Mr. Franco a little love!  If you’re not on the west coast, don’t worry, there’s a giveaway of 7’s and the Rebel exhibit book for you to enter on our Facebook page in celebration of Art Month.

It’s Art Month

8 May

They say April showers bring May flowers, and if they mean floral denim, they’re totally on point.  However, floral isn’t the only thing that we’re obsessed with this May because it’s Art Month!  We’re stoked to have enlisted Kelly Framel of The Glamourai to help us navigate the art world of New York.  This past weekend she stopped by the world-famous Frieze Art Fair on Randall’s Island, donning our white patchwork denim, to snap a few pics of her favorite pieces of art.  In the coming weeks, she’ll be visiting all of the top New York galleries and sharing her snapshots along the way.  Check out her 7 denim essentials, and Spotify playlist for gallery hopping, on our Facebook page.  Don’t forget to enter our Facebook sweepstakes to take home all of her 7 For All Mankind denim picks!

Cinco de Mayo

3 May

Besides being completely in love with the fact that it’s almost summertime (yay), we have another reason to celebrate: Cinco de Mayo!! We love Cinco because its the one holiday where it’s perfectly acceptable to shamelessly rock a sombrero, eat chips & guacamole until you say “no mas”, and have a margarita or six!  This year the holiday falls on a Saturday, so if you’re like us, you’ll have a few different parties to attend.  Always coming to the rescue, we’ve got a checklist of the essential items you’ll need for your Mexican fiesta!

1.    Wear something with a loud, multicolored print… because honestly, who shows up to a Cinco de Mayo party without going all-out festive!? Items to consider include a hobo cross-body bag in afunky Aztec print, awesome floral nail art, and a soundtrack of summer party tunes.

2.    Killer guacamole!  The secret to making an amazing guac lies in two key factors.  Whatever you do, do NOT skimp on the cilantro.  This either makes or breaks your party dip. Also note, a lack of cilantro cannot be compensated for by an overage of lime.  Coming from a place of trial and error, just trust us on that one.  Secondly, if you can’t seem to hit the “OMG this is the bomb dot com” factor with your dip, don’t underestimate the power of presentation.  Invest in an authentic stone mortar and pestle to make your fellow partygoers think you’ve got the dip situation under control.

3.    The perfect party outfit.  Since it’s almost summertime the weather is just about right, we’ve got the perfect three-piece ensemble for your Cinco festivities.  There’s something about a racerbank tank that just screams laid-back chic. Pair it with our June leather sandals, and our Neon Citron skinnies for an effortless cool look.  A little warm outside?  Try our Kauai Floral shorts for the same casual vibe, with a more tropical spin.

4.    Tequila! Patron or Skinny Girl margaritas, on the rocks or with salt, you need to have some form of the authentic drink in your hand.  Whatever floats your Mexican boat is fine by us!
