Labor Day Weekend ’12: Glamping!

31 Aug

Roughing it (Four Star Style)

We don’t look down on anyone who enjoys camping — it’s just that we prefer to kick back under the stars with room service at the ready and a spa appointment in hand. Yes, call us spoiled and perhaps a little nature resistant (Honey, we don’t do bugs or pot-o-potties unless it’s Coachella), but there’s something to be said for enjoying the best of both worlds minus the dirt and drama.

Enter glamping, the glam alternative to roasting frozen hot dogs over an open fire. A four-star version of camping, glamping offers up the best of the outdoors with all the amenities you love like gourmet food, massages and personal concierge service if you so choose. From tree houses overlooking the mountains to a yurt nestled deep within the desert plains, it’s not a matter of where you go but how you do it — in style.

So where should you head when the city starts to feel a bit overwhelming, but you can’t imagine existing without your iPad? Out West is your best bet if you’re chomping at the bit for some beautiful scenery. Or follow Hollywood’s cue and head to Canada for an ultra-exclusive, ultra-rustic experience.

Our Top 3 Glamping Getaways:

1. Hit The Trees With Ease

Post Ranch Inn (Big Sur, CA)

A flashback to those days when camping out in your own personal treehouse was your only escape from your parents, this resort offers up spectacular views from nine feet up in the air in your very own post modern crash pad. Complete with luxe essentials like a spa, gourmet restaurant, morning yoga and a day of whale watching, the experience is well worth the hefty price tag.

2. Pop a Designer Tent (Prospector Style)

Clayoquot Wilderness Resort (Tofino, British Columbia)

You know how you always say you REALLY want to get away? How out to a rustic destination that’s only reachable by sea plane that Hemingway would most definitely approve of? If Clayoquot’s romantic tents, raw views and gourmet food isn’t enough to entice you, keep in mind Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson celebrated their wedding and honeymoon here.

3. Enjoy a Glass of a Yurt

Cave B Inn & Spa (Quincy, WA)

Super-size the average tent to look like the circus big top, throw in some furniture,  leave out the toilet and what you have is the ultimate yurtin’ experience. A popular shelter among Southwestern Native Americans, Cave B Inn’s yurts are actually located within an active working winery (making going to the bar the ultimate door-to-door experience).

7 After 7: 9 to 5 Chic

29 Aug

Anh Sundstrom pens the addictive blog 9 to 5 Chic. A cubicle-dweller by day, Anh’s blog is all about style that can work both in and out of the office. This San Francisco local mixes luxury accessories with sophisticated staples for a look that is undeniably 24-hour chic. We sat down with her to get her take on taking your look from day to night.

7FAM: What does your ideal night out entail?

Anh: My ideal night out involves great friends & family and great food & drink! San Francisco has an endless array of delicious restaurants and fun places to meet friends for an after work glass of wine.

7FAM: Where would you wear this outfit?

Anh: This would be the perfect outfit to meet girlfriends out for dinner.

7FAM: What do you love about these snakeskin skinnies?

Anh: These jeans have such great texture, and the fit is just phenomenal!

7FAM: How have you styled them in order to stand out?

Anh:  I paired these sexy jeans with tailored essentials: a basic silk blouse and tuxedo blazer. Heels are a must for a night out and, naturally, I grabbed my highest pair!

“Fall” in Love With These Endless Summer Hairstyles

24 Aug

The countdown to Labor Day has begun, and with it the need to upgrade just about everything but our hair. Sure, sandals may be out and skinny jeans may be in again, but when it comes to great beauty looks, it’s like summer never left us. In fact, those cute braids and effortless waves fit right into our busy pre-Fashion Week preparations. After all, who has time for a complex coif when models must be booked, invitations must be sent out and oodles and oodles of hours must be dedicated to finding that perfect outfit for the Lincoln Center tents that’s guaranteed to make the street style photogs take pause.

The key it to find a hairstyle that works with your length, level of activity and hair texture. And while some of us will take the easy way out and don a fedora to deal with our fall bad hair days (guilty as charged), WE say try to be brave and experiment with one of these chic alternatives.

For Day: The Fishtail Crown

A long-time favorite with the fashion crowd, this braid comes is many variations that work with multiple hair types. We prefer this half-pulled up look since it cuts down on style time early in the morning. Bonus: This braid works best on slightly dirty (i.e. no need to schedule a blow out) hair.

Perfect Product Accessory: Get a sleek and polished look for the office with the help of Kiehl’s with Silk grooming aid.

For Night: The Beachy Bob

For those of us blessed (and we use that term loosely) with curly or wavy hair, the idea of loose, beachy curls  is easily accomplished with a little mouse or gel. But if your locks insist on following the straight and narrow, it’s time to break out a new curling iron or switch it up with some stellar texturizing sprays.

Perfect Product Accessory: Looking for a modern twist? Try out the Conair Infinit Pro “Your Curl” Tourmaline Cermaic Curling Iron. Simply wrap your hair around it and hold/spray into place for a sexy come-hither “I’m the ultimate beach goddess on date night” style.

For Weekends: The Corset Top Knot

We all like to play with new looks, so if you want to try something that might be a bit more complicated, save it for Sunday brunch. Our favorite fusion look  of the moment is the top knot+ reverse french braid combo. Best for thick hair that’s all one length, this might take a little practice, a few bobbi pins AND some patience to perfect.

Perfect Product Accessory: With metallic accents dominating the fashion landscape this fall, why not switch out the arm candy for something a bit more edgy? We ADORE UK jewelry designer Kelly McCallister’s studded top knot bands and think they add a punk element minus the pink mohawk.

Bottom line: Summer may be on its way out the door, but that doesn’t mean your hair has to look out of season OR out of place.

7 After 7: Song of Style

22 Aug

Aimee Song first started her blog in San Francisco but recently relocated back to Los Angeles where she is an interior designer. Her outfit choices are inspired by her love of architecture and interior design. She mixes textures and patterns to create dynamic and inspiring looks and interiors. We sat down with the style maven to get the scoop on what she’s wearing to paint the town red this Fall.

7FAM: What does your ideal night out entail?

AS: My ideal night out would be going to a gallery event, then eating afterwards with my friends without realizing it’s already 2am because we’re having too much fun enjoying each other’s company.

7FAM: Where would you wear this outfit?

I wore this outfit to a street art exhibition in West Hollywood.

7FAM: What do you love about these jeans?

Umm… everything! I love the snakeskin print on these jeans especially because it is actually a snakeskin like texture, and most importantly, they fit perfectly.

7FAM: How have you styled them in order to stand out?

I went all out by wearing white on white. I really could’ve worn any t-shirt (which I did) with these jeans because they stand out on their own!

7FAM: You’ve said that you love our Slim Illusion jeans. Can you elaborate?

There are a few too many skinny jeans in this world, but not many fit perfectly. I personally love the Slim Illusion style because not only do they fit my legs perfectly as if they are custom made, but best of all they don’t squish my butt in. Even after a long day of wear, they still fit like a glove without losing their shape!

Nailing It: A Guide to This Fall’s Hottest Nail Art

17 Aug

Mesh. Metallic. Reptile. Velvet. No, we’re not just talking about our latest Fall collection.

With nail art being at the forefront of the latest fashion trends, it’s no surprise some of this season’s hottest styles are being translated into eye-catching manicures. In fact, beauty addicts have already begun to covet the dark and dramatic styles making their debut on popular nail blogs over the past few weeks.

And no matter if you’re a newbie or a seasoned nail art pro, each of these three looks has the capacity to elevate your fingers to a haute couture level (minus the Rodeo Drive attitude or Fifth Avenue sticker shock).

Beginner: Velvet Nails

Soft and chic, velvet nails are riding the texture wave seen across the fashion runways last spring. This simple kit doesn’t require a great degree of skill, but you might have a hard time choosing between their bold berry, cool blue suede or a cashmere mink hues. (Ciate Nail Kit, $19.00; Sephora)

Intermediate: Reverse Metallic French Manicure

Have a steady hand and a desire to dazzle in a subtle way? Carry this season’s hot metallic trend right on down to your fingertips. Perfect for the office, this easy how-to explains how you can apply a bright silver or gold to your nails and then layer it with a soft pastel for a gorgeous muted effect. (Here’s a how-to from MTV.)

Pro: Studded Mesh Effect

While we wish we were born with the nail art gene a la Miss Ladyfinger, sometimes we’re just as happy to plop down in our favorite nail art salon (BTW, that’s Valley in Soho if you’re curious) and let the experts take over.  Thankfully, we’re yet to encounter a design they couldn’t master — this studded mesh pattern being no exception. This rock star mani is the perfect pairing of mesh and gold studs, making it a trendy double threat for this season’s hardcore fashionistas.

Short, long or somewhere in between — just remember nail art is one of the few things in life where “one size fits all” truly applies.

Ultimate LA Packing Must-Haves

15 Aug

Denim Dossier hit our stores this month and we’ve been in full west-coast swing ever since. To celebrate, we’re sending one lucky guy or gal to Los Angeles on us as part of our LA Essentials Month. We’ve been scouting LA street style, sharing our designers’ favorite 7FAM picks and jamming out to Spotify playlists hand-picked by our fav bloggers all month long. As the icing on the California Love cake, we broke down the ultimate packing list to help our winner cruise those SoCal streets in style.

Every trip starts with a great weekender bag. We love this fun and funky one by Stela 9 available here on Shopbop. It’s the perfect size for a two day trip—small enough to skip baggage claim at LAX and just big enough to fit all of your 7 For All Mankind jeans!

Once you get to LA, you will want to hit the town, are we right?! May we suggest dinner at Venice’s Tasting Kitchen? They have killer drinks that will match perfectly with this totally badass snakeskin blouse.

The next day, hit up Beverly Hills for some premium shopping and possible celeb sightings. Take a cue from our Creative Director Michele Manz and slip into our Slim Illusions in ginger – she says they make you feel a whole size smaller because their revolutionary stretch will suck you in perfectly.

To shield your locks and skin from that famous Cali sun don’t forget a cute hate like this one from TopShop. It’s straw construction and ribbon band make it the perfect casual accessory for exploring the sunny city!

For drinks and dancing, you will have to dress to impress in a town like LA. Slip into a pair of classic black skinnies, like our Slim Cigarette in Black Black.  and a plain white tank. This outfit’s main event is the jacket – our Moto Jacket in Liquid Metallic Copper. It has a classic motorcycle fit with exaggerated lapels with actual metallic thread woven into the fabric. Trust, it is super sick and you won’t go unnoticed in this baby.

Don’t forget to ENTER TO WIN this free trip right HERE. It’s as simple as “liking” us on Facebook and entering the contest! Good luck and we’ll see one of you in LA!

Going Up To Get Down: Your Guide To The Best Rooftop Bars

10 Aug

The cocktail and nightlife scene is a constantly changing beast. First it was VIP lists and velvet ropes, and now its all about gaining exclusive access to the best and most elite nosebleed seats across the country. Rooftop bars have become a part of the fashion conversation, enabling those that live in cramped quarters and operate within certain stylish confines to attain a new perspective. From breath-taking city landscapes to picture-perfect ocean views, the idea of being “seen” is just as important as “seeing” the world high atop one of these chic social outposts.

So where should you go if you want to rub shoulders with today’s hottest fashion, tech, entertainment and business influencers? Here’s a rundown of our favorite rooftop bars and lounges:

1. The Standard High Line (NYC)

A home-away-from-home for New York’s downtown crowd, The Standard Hotel’s rooftop space comes equipped with retro furniture, astroturf, an exceptional view of the Hudson River and  “it” girls aplenty. Great for celeb-spotting and model carousing, this Meat-Packing District landmark offers up the perfect summertime cocktail of sun, fun and fashion elite.

2. Altitude at SLS Hotel (LA)

Sure, you can head downtown to the Standard’s rooftop LA outpost, but if you’re looking for something a bit more intimate, give Altitude a whirl. Perfect for weekly power lunches, this is the place to go if you’re looking for a little one-on-one time with your agent or an opportunity to break bread with your favorite A-lister in private. Bonus: An eclectic oasis, the elegant cabanas, oversized mirrors and potted plants add intimacy while the pig in the pool proves to be the ultimate ice-breaker and conversation starter.

3. Studio Paris (Chicago)

Photo studio by day and European-inspired nightclub at night, Studio Paris is ideal if you crave a turn in front of the cameras. With bottle service available, and a retractable roof at the ready, Windy City scenesters never have to worry about their after-hours fun suffering a rain delay.

4. Wet at W Hotel (Miami)

You’ll never feel the chill of rejection when lounging about at W Hotel’s Wet heated poolside bar in South Beach. Intent on offering every amenity, you can bask in sun while enjoying a cocktail and custom Sunblock Application Assistance. Feel the need for some privacy? Rent a cabana for you and your friends — each comes equipped with flat screen TVs and plenty of wi-fi access so you can indulge in a day of texting and tweeting.

Wear Now, Wear Later: Brooklyn Blonde

8 Aug

Fall means two very important things: cooler temperatures and new clothes! The change of season means that we all have an excellent excuse to hit the stores. And first thing on all of our shopping lists? Jeans! (duh).  But great news, Denim Dolls: you don’t necessarily have to wait for the temperature to drop to wear some of your new threads. Start rocking fall’s hottest trends now and be ahead of the seasonal curve.

Take a cue from one of our fav fashion bloggers Helena Glazer a.k.a. Brooklyn Blonde and switch up your look in style.

Brooklyn Blonde writes about anything that inspires her, particularly fashion and her city. We love her effortless style–whether she rocks a tee and jeans or a buttoned up office-friendly ensemble, she looks flawless.

A combination of feminine and edgy, my style is heavily influenced by New York City.

By adding one of my favorite leather jackets on top of whatever I’m wearing, I can instantly make any look fall-appropriate.

I’m loving the High Gloss Snakeskin Skinnies so much right now because I can dress them down during the day with a cotton v-neck and a pair of flats but also dress them up at night with a pair of killer heels and a jacket.

Get more of Helena’s amazing style on her blog and be sure to enter for a chance to win a FREE TRIP to LA from 7FAM. Yeah, you read that right! We’re flying out one lucky winner and a friend to the City of Angels in honor of our LA Essentials issue of Denim Dossier, so click here to enter! Good luck! xx

Your Concert Fashion Essentials

3 Aug

Concerts may be a scene, but these days it’s all about BEING seen — as in perfecting the ultimate street style look that demands a place of honor on Instagram. But first, certain considerations must be taken. Comfort, sophistication and rock star style aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive — especially when you’re canvassing the sticky Chicago heat of Lollapalooza or getting down and dirty in the desert for Burning Man.

We say start with a bold denim (this snake print makes us think of Stephen Tyler circa 1975), and build it out with something sheer and sexy. Add other statement-making elements like this ethnic necklace and a “so big you can’t miss it” cocktail ring that’s easy to spot from across the crowded beer line.

And while you may have visions of epic crowd-surfing and effigy burning rolling around in your head, a rollicking good time can’t be had without the perfect bag. Skip the clutch, and upgrade to something that’s capable of carrying more than just your house keys. With goodies to buy and pics to snap, a solid satchel in a contrasting print adds an exciting mix to the festival landscape.

So dress the vibe, pack with practicality, and raise that lighter you found in your junk drawer high above your head. Music may be the essence of your entertainment pursuits, but looking good always makes for a great opening act.

Wear Now, Wear Later: Late Afternoon

1 Aug

Part of the beauty of denim is how versatile it is. You can wear jeans all year long but the fun lies in how you style it. Cut offs in the summer are a sunny day staple while skinnies in the cold months are downright necessary. We sat down with blogger Liz Cherkasova of Late Afternoon and asked her to shed some light on how she’s transitioning her wardrobe from summer to fall this year.

Late Afternoon is curated by a California girl with a penchant for sharing effortless style, adventures and dreams one picture at a time.

Feminine and sophisticated with a little edge

I wear a lot of lighter colors in the summer, but for fall I gravitate to richer, darker hues.

That they can be worn with anything and dressed up or down. Plus I’ve always been a fan of metallics; they are almost like neutrals to me.

Check our Liz’s blog here and dont forget to enter to win a FREE TRIP TO LA! A two night stay for you an a friend in The City Of Angels could be yours! CLICK HERE to enter.
