7 After 7 – Keiko Lynn

26 Sep

This native Floridian, who has been blogging since she was 15 years old, moved to New York to pursue fashion design. During her tenure as an independent designer, she transformed her online personal diary into her blog Keiko Lynn and began documenting her quirky sense of style and daily motivations. We sat down with the style maven to get the scoop on what she’s wearing out and about in NYC this fall.

7FAM: What does your ideal night out entail?

KL: It’s all about whom you’re with. Great conversation can make an otherwise mundane night out absolutely enthralling. I love a little adventure, though. I’m not big on plans; I just want to get out and explore – and make some new memories.

7FAM: Where would you wear this outfit?

KL: Out with my girlfriends. We usually go to an event, whether it’s a rooftop party or a fashion event, and then out for dinner and drinks.

7FAM: What do you love about these gold metallic jeans?

KL: The gold color isn’t too intense, so you can dress them up or down. They almost act as a neutral – a metallic, very pretty neutral.

7FAM: How have you styled them in order to stand out?

KL: In New York, it’s hard to stand out. I never feel over-dressed in the company I keep, so I have a go big or go home mindset. I went all out with the gold theme and added in some beading and spikes for texture. It makes a big statement but keeping it confined to black and gold keeps it from being too over the top.

7FAM: We’ve seen you wearing our Slim Illusions. What do you think about them?

KL: These jeans slim in all the right places, but they aren’t restricting. These aren’t standing room only skinny jeans – the fabric provides a lot of stretch.

Elevated Brunch Suggestions For the Ladies You Love

21 Sep

Let’s be clear. Anne Parker does not cook. In fact, my last foray into the kitchen resulted in a small 2-alarm smoker and a mild flirtation with a New York City fire fighter who happened to be a former Mr. November (god bless the FDNY Firefighter Calendar of Heroes). So when my best friend asked me host an upcoming brunch at my apartment for a college friend visiting from out of town, my first thought was “Does Benoit deliver?” and if so, how many gallons of mimosas can one request without looking like a complete lush?

No, my BFF explained, I was expected to actually make the food and drinks  myself. So following a mild panic attack and a trip to Pottery Barn for something more substantial than my mismatched plates and cups, I hit upon the following menu:

Drinks: The Fall Signature Cocktail
God Bless Martha Stewart. Without her we’d all be stuck mixing frozen orange juice concentrate with some cheap Asti. A modified mimosa with a touch of rye, bitters and blood orange to add a bit of class, this drink is a great way to toast the season with friends. (Psst…if one drink just won’t do, make sure to check out our Fall Cocktails Pinterest board for additional inspiration)

Starter: Zucchini Fritters
Put away those carb-inducing potato pancakes — this yummy alternative is easy to make and packed full of protein and vitamins.

Main Course: Fall Vegetable and Quinoa Hash Poached Eggs
Seriously. Quinoa is like the new black — it’s so on-trend right now, I’m surprised no one’s offered it a reality series yet. Pair it elegantly with a delicate poached egg for the perfect plating experience and feel free to add on some organic turkey apple sausage for good measure.

Wish me luck, loves. If I can master this meal my relationship with Lean Cuisines might officially be over….

7 After 7: Beckerman Bite Plate

19 Sep

The Beckermans (twins Caillianne and Samantha) hail from Toronto and these talented sisters have a fantastic eye for style. Their blog, Beckerman Bite Plate, is a vintage clothing shopper’s dream featuring the sisters showing off their favorite pieces and finds. Their line, The Beckerman, was a popular collection of womenswear, handbags and jewelry featured everywhere from the pages of WWD and Vogue to the closet of Sienna Miller and other stylish celebs. Their DIY posts showcase their own knits and sketches.

I sat down with these stylish sisters to chat all things denim.

7FAM: What does your ideal night out entail?

Callianne: My ideal night entails hanging out with my Pomeranians Cubby and Marni and then heading out downtown with the sistas’ to a fashion party.

7FAM: Where would you wear this outfit?

C: I would wear this outfit to a Black Keys Concert. It’s rock n’ roll chic!

S: I would wear this outfit to go out for karaoke with the girls and singing my lil’ heart out, is my all time favorite thing to do!

7FAM: What do you love about these jeans?

C: I love how comfortable these jeans are around the waist, and how tight they are around the legs. I can eat dinner in them!

S: I love how these jeans make me feel sexy.

7FAM: How have you styled them in order to stand out?

C: I have styled them with a plaid patchwork top with a maroon hat and a yellow t-shirt. I am going for the varsity/grunge rock n’ roll kind off feel. The jeans act as a neutral but tie all the colors in together. Perfect for Fall!

S:  I’m really into that Hawaiian feel and royal blue is my favorite color for Fall. I put the royal blue Slim Illusion jeans with a Hawaiian shirt and surfer bag and voila…surf’s up!

Slim Illusion” Quote:

C: I love how tight and fitted the Slim Illusion jeans are, and how they fit around the ankles with no bunching. They have a lot of stretch and they are like a second skin, which is awesome. I love the Slim Illusion jean because they make me feel fit and show off my legs! I also love all the colors and patterns they come in.

S:I love the way the Slim Illusion jeans fit because they are very slimming and extremely comfortable. The color just pops and I’m all about royal blue for Fall! The Slim Illusion jeans are extremely comfortable and are very slimming. I love the way they make my legs look!

Four Spring Trends to Look Forward To (Courtesy of Our Very Own Anne Parker and New York Fashion Week)

17 Sep

Image

Hello DD readers!

It’s 7FAM’s very own Anne Parker making a brief cameo this week to chat up all the fab fashions from New York Fashion Week. No, my feet still haven’t forgiven me for the seven day regimen of stiletto heels, but then again what’s a little pain when you have the opportunity to rub shoulders with Joe Zee and Nina Garcia? Between all the parties and style stalking (yes, Zombie Boy, that was me trying to not look awkwardly obvious as I snuck a pic of you in between glasses of champagne), I found oodles of inspiration that left me excited to share…and our creative director more than a little annoyed with the number of texts and emails I kept sending with “helpful” suggestions for our upcoming spring/summer collection.

So what’s tops on my list for 2013? Here’s a quick rundown:

Sheer Lace — there’s sexy and then there’s sexy. Don’t know the difference? Let designers like Jason Wu and Jill Stuart be your guide. Using vintage lingerie as a point of reference, several of the biggest names in the fashion scene have combined sheer fabrics with lace insets to create the ultimate in peek-a-boo chic.

Bold+Muted — THE hottest look for spring, get ready for soft neutrals amped up against bright prints and colors. I loved what I saw at the Richard Chai Love and Sophie Theallet shows, and I can’t wait to play with all our denim palettes and see what magic we can make using this trend as a point of inspiration.

Geometric Cuts, Patterns and Prints — My love of all things geometric runneth over. Hot on the heels of summer’s big geometric jewelry trend comes cuts, silhouettes and prints with an edge – literally. Nobody does it better than Vivienne Tam, but I’m betting London and Paris Fashion Weeks will bring out some tough contenders.

Black and White — So classic it hurts. Philip Lim, Marc Jacobs and Rachel Zoe were just some of the heavy hitters who relied on traditional men’s tailoring to create dynamic looks from this chic yet simple color palette.

Overall, this fashion week proved to be one of the most wearable in a long time, so prep those credit cards, kiddies and get ready for the ultimate spring fling with your closet!

The Empire (Hotel) Strikes Back: Meet The NYC Fashionista’s Home Away From Home

14 Sep

Image

When it comes to navigating New York Fashion Week, you always need a centralized location to kick back, relax and toss back a cocktail or two in between all the shows and parties. And since it’s official move from Bryant Park to Lincoln Center no other establishment can compete with the Empire Hotel’s  elite fashion cache. Located just across the street from the tents, this luxe establishment may look familiar thanks in part to its role on Gossip Girl as Chuck Bass’ official place of residence.

Sure, its gilded gold and black modern decor is like bees to honey for the many foreign tourists that flock here, but for designers, stylists and the fashion folk who love them, this is THE place to be for offsite shows, upscale snacks, free wifi access (hey, some people actually had to WORK during fashion week) and gorgeous views of the city via its sleek rooftop bar — the perfect place to gab and gossip about who wore what and which shows proved to be a tragedy or triumph.

Host to this year’s Allure Lounge and Charlotte Ronson after-party, you can be sure the Empire will continue to be an Upper West Side mainstay for the likes of Rachel Zoe, Nina Garcia and the rest of us who were forced to hoof it uptown over the past week in our painfully chic heels and an unlimited Metro card.

7 After 7: Sugarlaws

12 Sep
In October 2007, Katy Atlas, a Princeton graduate and lawyer, created Sugar Laws as a place to share recipes with her family and friends. Soon the site evolved into another new love: fashion. Her daily diary documents her sugary confections and sweet style.Katy includes her favorite recipes for her readers – and even bakes special treats for brands.

What does your ideal night out entail?
Dinner and drinks at a fun restaurant with a big group of friends!  I love to order a ton of dishes and share everything, which works best in big groups!

Where would you wear this outfit?
Anywhere!  This would be perfect for a night out but also totally easy for a fall or winter brunch!

What do you love about these laser gold jeans?
They are so unique — the perfect pair to build an outfit around.  I love that the print is subtle but still noticeable — perfect for mixing and matching or standing alone!

How have you styled them in order to stand out?
These jeans have this amazing cool-girl, seventies vibe, so I brought that out with a sleeveless vest, tons of bracelets and necklaces, and obviously aviator shades!

The Slim Illusion jeans are amazingly flattering, but still totally comfortable.  The stretch is so well constructed that they make you look great all night!

Fall Beauty Must-Haves: Dark Lips, Flushed Cheeks and Moody Fingertips

7 Sep

There’s something dangerous in the air; a wicked smile and the promise of something exciting yet to come. With fall looming on the horizon, the bright splashes of neons and bold prints we’ve come to hold dear for summer have quickly been replaced by a sexier, more gothic-like element that’s being seen across the entire fashion and beauty landscape. From tangled curls to masculine menswear, this season’s style conscious would be wise to put their polka dots and pumps away in favor of rich jeweled tones and oxford heels.

So what does that mean if you’re ready to embrace a new look from your cheeks right on down to your fingertips? Focus on these three trends for your next trip to your favorite beauty counter:

Vampy Lips — Seen all over the Fall 2012 runways, last season’s bright pinks and pops of hyper-saturated corals have been done away with in favor of dark wines and blood reds. Our pick? Smashbox’s Image Factory Lip Enhacing Gloss in Nude and Deep Berry (Sephora, $24.00).

Flushed Cheeks — A healthy glow that suggests and evening spent not-so-solo. Tops on our list? A classic we can’t live without: Benefit’s Liquid Benetint (Ulta, $29.00 ).

Nightlife Nail Art — When a French manicure just won’t do, and you’ve become bored with your standard application of Dior green or OPI’s Russian Navy: Try The New Black’s Digital Underground Collection ($24.00, Sephora). Comprised of three different nail art sets designed by leading artists in the field, you can’t go wrong with one of these creative beauty kits.

7 After 7: Zarna’s Runway

5 Sep

Nashville native and style aficiando Zarna writes Zarna’s Runway, which is a one-stop shop to all things beauty, lifestyle, and music. She has been featured in MTV Style, Refinery29, Cosmopolitan, American Apparel, Jeffrey Campbell, among others.

What does your ideal night out entail?

My ideal night would start off with the perfect cocktail hour with friends (gin and fresh lime juice on the rocks please!), followed by a night of spontaneity.  Whether it’s checking out a random concert, going on an impromptu road trip, or eating at the little Korean place on the other side of town – my ideal night is doing something out of the norm with my favorite people!

Where would you wear the metallic jeans with black blazer outfit?

I’d wear this outfit to a concert or to dinner on a Friday night.  It’s simple and classic, but the copper tone of the jeans and bold shoulders on the blazer are an upgrade from classic blue denim and a basic blazer!

What do you love about the metallic jeans?

The metallic copper had me at hello. It’s hard to find metallic jeans that have a perfect, polished finish and these are a dream come true. I’m going to rock them during the day with a tied chambray shirt & sky-high platforms as well! (Get them here!)

How have you styled them in order to stand out?

I styled them with one of my favorite BCBG Max Azria blazers, a simple white tee, some colorful shoes, and lots of fun jewelry.  I wanted to keep the color palette very simple and pump it up a notch with lots of crazy accessories!  I mean if wearing copper jeans doesn’t make you stand out, then what will?

“Slim Illusion” Quote:

The Slim Illusion jean is a staple in my wardrobe because they’re the perfect jeans to go out in.  Not only do they provide enough stretch for a night of cocktails and dancing with girls, but they also make sure that I look perfectly put together the whole night!

Zarna is also rocking our skinnies in high shine, leather-like denim in lipstick red and in black!

Check out Zarna’s Runway for more style inspiration from this Nashville native and stay tuned for more amazing blogger coverage in 7 After 7 all month long!
