Design Team Takeover: Istanbul

31 May

The journey from raw denim to a pair of completed premium jeans can be long and varied. At 7 For All Mankind, jeans are washed, distressed and embellished by hand and there is a story behind every single pair. The process behind them tells the story of the thought and creativity infused into everything we create.

For inspiration for our next collection, our design team is touring Europe to find inspiration in the most unlikely places. First stop? Istanbul, Turkey, for a glimpse into this vibrant city’s culture, architecture and fashion–all of which might someday be the source of a pattern or details on a pair of 7 For All Mankind jeans. Here are a few of the highlights from their trip. So the next time you slip into your skinnies, remember that their design was a result of the passion of our incredible designers!

This week’s Summer Travel Series takes us to sunny Big Sur, California. Located on the cliffs of the Central Coast of California, Big Sur is one of the chillest destinations on the West Coast. Everyone from the adventurer to the spa-goer will feel at home among the gorgeous scenery and luxe hotels. Here are a few of our fave spots to check out and what to wear for the perfect Big Sur weekend.

 post ranch inn

1. Post Ranch Inn

The Post Ranch Inn perfectly combines rustic and luxurious elements, to create the most relaxed vibe this side of the Pacific. Every room house has an amazing view of the ocean or forest and most mornings, guests of the Inn can take part in morning yoga or meditation. For those who want to escape the sun, the spa offers everything from massages to shaman sessions. Staying at the Post Ranch Inn is a must for anyone who wants to feel totally at ease in Big Sur.

2. Nepenthe

This is THE place to check out during your stay in Big Sur! This hot-spot makes you feel like you’re inside a tree house with killer ocean views. The views alone are worth dropping in for but Nepenthe is known for their Ambrosia burger, made from ground steak, or the Three Berry Pie with vanilla ice-cream. Make sure to bring your camera (we smell an Instagram moment..) as you eat at this unique and beautiful spot.

3. What to Wear

A large part of the Big Sur experiences focuses on the outdoors so keeping things casual and comfortable is a must. This Zip Placket Denim Top in Blanc de Blanc is perfect for a nice lunch outside. Pack our amazing and super comfortable jeans, The Skinny in Clear Indigo, for a little bit of stretch in your step. Or, don our bright Double Layer Racerback Tank in Buttercup with our Slim Cigarette Jeans in Clean White, as an easy day-to-night look for dinner overlooking the ocean.

Summer Travel Series: Montauk Mood

24 May

This year, we’re bringing you a break down of all of our favorite weekend getaways. Because what’s a Summer Friday good for without a place to escape?

With Memorial Day Weekend upon us, we’re getting ready to get out of NYC, beat the heat and hit the beach.  And while The Hamptons are always a classic, these days we’re all about Montauk. This surf town on the eastern end of Long Island is known for its killer surf and easy-going spirit and legendary parties. Here’s our list of where to go and what to wear…

1. Surf Lodge

This hotel and bar is the perfect antidote for a long week spent working in the big city. Known for its raw, untouched coastline, this is the place to let off some steam this summer. With a chilled out vibe and notorious parties, this is a resting place for locals, city-dwellers and artists alike. At night, the outdoor space is ignited with beach bonfires and good music.

2. Ruschmeyers

This “summer camp for adults” was originally built in 1952 on three acres of lush, lakeside woodland in Montauk, and was used as a camp for kids for years. It’s been recently transformed into a chic, balsa-wood-infused destination where all the cool kids from the city flock for good drinks and dancing all summer long. They even have a giant teepee—a perfect for holing up with your pals…

3. What To Wear

Now that you know where to go, the more important matter at hand is what to wear. Since Montauk is known for it’s laid back attitude, follow suit with your wardrobe. Pack a slew of cut-off denim shorts, like our Cut Off in Distressed Light or our Relaxed Cut Off Short in Army Green. Paired with a tee and sunnies and you’re set for lunch on the beach. For night, opt for cool, light denim like our Zipper Chino in Tencil Denim with our Pleated Collar Tank for the perfect dressed-up-but-laid-back look.

So this summer take the train to Montauk for a little R&R and beach time. You can thank us later! Shop our entire collection for more summertime staples here.

Anatomy Of A Jean

From wedding dresses to doilies, lace has a way of softening up anything it adorns. This season it’s being combined with vintage washed denim in a way that juxtaposes hard and sodt, feminine and functional. The process of creating The Skinny in Embellished Metallic Denim is about as intricate as the lace pattern that emblazoned down the front panel of the pants itself. The result is an attention grabbing pair of jeans with a metallic sheen that radiates depth and texture while illuminating any look.

The front panels of the skinny jeans in their raw denim form are cut drom the pant and sent off to an embroidery house so the lace pattern can be applied. The embroidery process take approximately 6 hours to complete both panels. There are a total of 240,00 stitches on each leg.

The panels arrive back at the factory and are constructed back onto the Skinny jeans, then sent off to the washhouse to undergo a 45 minute stone washing and 10 minute bleach process, in order to achieve a vintage look. The previously raw denim is now 10 times lighter than when it started.

Once the jeans dry, a metallic foil heat transfer is applied to the top of the lace. It’s laid on top of each leg and put into a heat transfer. The heat seals in the metallic coating and is particularly noticeable on the more raised parts of the lace.

A heavy, super stretch denim is used in the construction of this style so that it can withstand being embroidered without puckering.

The custom designed lace pattern was inspired by Gros Point de Venise lace, which was seen all over the Spring 2013 runways.

The light pearl coating brings out more depth and texture in the lace and denim. Texture is a major trend for 7 For All Mankind as it brings a fresh, fashion-forward feel to denim.
